Brief History: Completed in 2012, the glass facade was an essential part of Renzo Piano’s original vision for The Shard, designed to blend with London’s sky and reflect its ever-changing weather. Notable Features: Made from 11,000 individual panes of glass, covering 56,000 square meters, the facade is one of the largest in Europe. Its tapering design resembles shards of glass piercing the sky, giving the building its name. Fun Fact or Unique Angle: The facade was designed to look different at every moment of the day, changing color depending on sunlight, clouds, and night illumination. At night, the spire lights up as a glowing beacon for the city. Current Use or Visitor Info: Tourists often admire the facade from outside London Bridge Station, one of the best spots for photographing the tower’s full height.
