Soaring into the Dubai skyline, the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, standing at a staggering 828 meters (2,717 feet). Construction began in 2004 and the tower officially opened in 2010 as the centerpiece of Downtown Dubai. Developed by Emaar Properties and designed by the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the building was originally named “Burj Dubai” but was renamed “Burj Khalifa” in honor of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.

Architecturally, the Burj Khalifa is a marvel of modern engineering. Its triple-lobed footprint is inspired by the Hymenocallis flower, and the sleek, tapering structure reflects both Islamic geometric influences and cutting-edge skyscraper design. The tower is clad in over 100,000 square meters of reflective glass and features more than 160 floors, including luxury residences, corporate suites, and the Armani Hotel. The highlight for most visitors is the "At The Top" observation decks on the 124th, 125th, and 148th floors, offering panoramic views of Dubai and the surrounding desert.

A fun fact: the tower’s spire can be seen from up to 95 kilometers (59 miles) away on a clear day. It also holds multiple records—including highest occupied floor, tallest observation deck, and longest elevator travel distance.

Today, Burj Khalifa remains a global icon of innovation and ambition.
