The park officially opened its doors on February 6, 2006, following an initial soft opening in November 2005. It was initially managed under the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration and the Pinganakorn Development Agency before transitioning to the Zoological Park Organization. This initiative was part of a broader government policy to promote tourism in Chiang Mai, alongside the city's rich arts, culture, and natural beauty, and to position Chiang Mai as a key tourist hub in Southeast Asia.
